About Us

Welcome to The Steamboat House Bed and Breakfast in Galena, IL.! We've welcomed guests from all over the country since 2000. We're the proud owners of a Gothic Revival historic mansion that has been lovingly restored and decorated with the utmost care. The inn has remained virtually unchanged structurally since 1855, and our guests enjoy its spacious parlors, formal dining room, billiard room, and sprawling covered front porch. We offer wine and cheese hours in the evenings. We're not far from the main street in our quaint little town of Galena, Illinois—a community where you'll find plenty of things to do during your stay with us. We strive to make your stay as magnificent as possible. This is why we've chosen this community—a quaint little town full of things to do during your trip. We look forward to partnering with our fellow Galena locals, and our travelers from, Chicago, Il., Des Moines, IA., Kansas City, MO., and everywhere in between. Spent a wonderful weekend in Galena staying at this beautifully restored Gothic Revival mansion built in 1855. Our Sunday evening stay and delicious included Monday morning formal breakfast was the highlight of our trip to the Galena territory and nearby Dubuque, Iowa. Super clean property, with luscious bedding, sumptuous historical surroundings and an attentive and caring innkeeper. A real delight and terrific way to spend the weekend before Christmas. Thank you again Carol for a very warm stay in lovely Galena.

This was, hands down, one of the best bed and breakfasts I’ve ever stayed in! It was an easy 5-7 minute walk from Main Street. The historic house is well cared for and beautiful. Carol laid out wine and cheese every evening, freshly baked cookies before bedtime and made us a home cooked breakfast. We also had the chance to play pool and board games with other guests. The rooms have fireplaces which made our stay extra cozy. We can’t wait to visit again!

I LOVE the steam boat house. My family stays there often. It’s cozy and has Great food. Carol and Katie (the owners) are very kind and are great cooks. It’s like a second home for us. Carol has a super sweet puppy whom I absolutely love named Gia. She stays in carols quarters. The steam boat house is by far my favorite place to stay in galena. ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!
